ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, but if you have fever severe enough to induce deli here and rium there, you don't have a cold anymore. I'm not sure what you DO have, but it's progressed from "cold" to "something potentially serious". (Excuse the scientific terms.)

ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of a funny story about my time living in The Netherlands in college. It was spring and my spring allergies hit hard there just a couple of weeks after arriving. So I made my first trip to the drug store in search of antihistimines.
ReplyDeleteSince I didn't speak (or read) Dutch I gave up trying to find something OTC and asked the young gal pharmacist to help me find an antihistimine. She looked at me quizzically clearly not knowing the word, despite speaking (as most Dutch do) nearly perfect English. So I described my sneezing, runny nose, from the trees and flowers and she lights up and asks "hay fever?" I was blown away that she knew a slang English term like hay fever but not antihistimine (she was a pharmacist after all), thinking to myself that antihistimine must be somewhat latin based and more universal a term.
Then I was more blown away that a package of pills that lasted more than 2 weeks cost all of about $2 and worked a helluva lot better than what I could get at the time in the states.
