One Up
"Hey, mom, can you help me zip this up?"
"Sure, buddy, come here. Hey, can I tell you something?"
"Okay, what?"
"I love you."
"Oh. Well, I love you more!"
"That's impossible, because I love you more plus one!"
"Um... well, I love you more PLUS FOUR!"
Ah, my family did that with me until I (probably age 4 or 5) came up with the "perfect" retort: "I love you to the end of the line and then some." In other words, add more numbers than I knew how to count ... lol.
ReplyDeleteWe did that, too... I love you to infinity and beyond was the final call. This really put a smile on my face.
ReplyDeleteThat's the bunny book! Did you know there are adults that think this type of conversation diminishes children's love - making them think that their love is less then the adults?
ReplyDeleteSeriously, some folks have to stop looking at their navels.
Our competitions have evolved to "I love you more anything you say plus one." I love little ones.
ReplyDeleteReminds me of Nut Brown Hare in Guess How Much I Love You. Kids say the greatest thing!
ReplyDeleteWhen I say, "Hey - you know what?" to either one of mine now, the answer is always "Yes, I do know you love me."
ReplyDelete(and yes, I need to fix my profile picture ... Monday.)
