  30. Aw, Jenn. I wish you could be here to share in our July 4th celebration. I'd surely miss it if I were away.

During my senior year of high school, we served as a host family to a foreign exchange student from Germany - Ilka, now one of my dearest friends. She arrived in August and had to depart just days before the 4th of July. Oh, how I wish she could have been here for that! Maybe one day.

  37. Some people this year are getting laser shows instead of fireworks. I'm all for preventing forest fires, but I'm not sure it's the same thing.

Have a Happy 4th of July.

-- when in Oregon, on 4th of July, back in the 90'ies, we had to go to Vancouver to see the fireworks - proclaimed to be the biggest west of Missisippi.
