A Point, A Chat and A Vote

Point of reference: Lekkerbek (pronounced just the way it looks--lecker beck) is a white fish filet breaded and deep fried.

************************************************

"So how are things shaping up for Pakjesavond then?"

"Fine, I think. Nearly there anyway. I would still like to find a mini-trampoline for Andrew and then there is the matter of his fish."

"His fish?"

"He wants a fish from Sinterklaas"

"Oh, we're not getting him a fish, are we?"

"In his letter to the Sint he asked for a fish"

"Oh, man, can't we just get him a lekkerbek?"

************************************

I ask you.

This?

Or this?

  1. Oh Zwarte Piet dares to give Lekkerbek (or he has misunderstood?), especially to kids a bit older already and might understand the humor.

  2. Lekkerbek of course! Fried goldfish does not really taste good (I expect, based on the fact that raw are supposed to really be nasty - I have a friend who knows firsthand!).

Would he settle for a Nemo cuddle toy? Or DVD? Or maybe one of those plastic fish that are battery operated and go diving up and down in the bowl...? Just a few suggestions to try and give you another option!

My trick was always to give something else that they did not ask for but I knew they would really love. That way they forgot about what the didn't get. Maybe a puppy!! LOL;)

  3. Oh, please tell me you're getting him the fish. The live one.

If the fish is out of the question, what about sea monkeys?

  4. Too funny! And it seems like you have some good suggestions here.

  5. Go for the fried fish, but know that you're contributing to his jaded attitude later in life. ;)

  6. That's got to be one of the most fun words--

    Lekkerbeck, lekkerbeck, lekkerbeck . . .

  7. I hope the swimming kind is the one. That is really interesting how a word can mean a live fish and a dead one at the same time.

    Happy Shopping!

  8. You know, actually that might be a great christmas present for my boys (the fish, not the Lekkerbek). Thanks for the idea!

  11. You must get him the live fish. They are nothing to care for and honestly, do you want him to think Sinterklaas is completely daft?!

  12. Go for the fried fish. Who doesn't love fried food?

  13. Haha! I'd say go for the real fish, or one of the other options given before. But lekkerbekjes as a present might be regarded ... how shall I put this ... mean? :D

  14. I agree with the Nemo route. I understand the thrill of having fish previously was "the final flush." With Nemo its just another forgotten toy at the bottom of the box. Also, go on Target.com and check out the Jump start electronic trampoline in this weeks add. It's $39.99 and it looks like it would be just the ticket. I happen to know someone that could forward it to you if needed.

  15. When I was little, my folks owned and operated a pet store--I've had my share, and so have my sons, of fish (alligators, chameleons, crabs, all things "tank oriented"), and although they are some work to keep healthy and happy, they also give a great deal of joy.

My vote is for the wet and wiggly REAL fishy.
