I can remember as a kid that my folks sent away for fresh Florida oranges and grapefruit for Christmas. It was the MOST delicious treat in the world to have fresh, tree ripened fruit in the middle of winter! Grapefruit are a world apart when ripened naturally, rather than picked green and sent to the store LOL.
We just picked the last half dozen mandarins from the two trees in our front yard. A sad moment, indeed. We do have about twenty grapefruit left on the trees in the back yard, but after my little accident last year I'm sending the kids out to pick those.
And the VERY BEST thing about winter is that it ends!
The story begins like this: A couple of years ago my husband got a crazy notion in his head that returning to school after years in the professional world might be a good idea. So he and I along with our three children left our suburban life in the U.S. and traded it for a new adventure in The Netherlands.
The saga continues like this:
A year of post graduate study was so much fun, we figured we'd stay a while longer. Working in a new field, attending new schools and living in a new city, I dare say we have settled into a rhythm in our expat lives.
This blog is the record I keep of our experiences here; good, bad and hilarious. Intended as an outlet for my expression, this is the place for me to say my something.
Especially clementines.... yum!
ReplyDeleteYum indeed. ;) Happy Saturday!
ReplyDeleteYup. That's what I am unwrapping today: Clementines. Oh, my, yummy!
ReplyDeleteOh, I SO agree! I can't eat grapefruit anymore, though, which was my favorite, but clementines sure make up for it!
ReplyDeletelol - we bought the last of the mandarin oranges last week and took a moment to mourn right there in the store :)

ReplyDeleteMaybe it the fact that I live in Miami, but I just can't get that excited about citrus. lol

ReplyDeleteThat's a shame about you and grapefruit. That is definitely one of my favorites.

Grieving over the loss of citrus is completely understandable.

I don't know, even in Arizona I got really excited come citrus season. Especially since that meant I could harvest fruit from my own backyard!
Welcome to the game!
